Diamond Clarity
The clarity of a diamond refers to the inclusions (flaws) it contains. Every inclusion found will lower the clarity to some degree; the more noticeable the flaw, the more it will lower the clarity.
To determine a diamond clarity, it is viewed under 10-power magnification by a trained eye. Most diamonds contain very tiny natural birthmarks known as inclusions. However, the fewer and smaller the inclusions are, the less likely it is they will interfere with the passage of light through the diamond, and the more beautiful the diamond will be.

As far as value, the better the clarity of the diamond, the more it is worth. Therefore, flawless is the most valuable, and each successive clarity grade down to an I3 becomes less valuable.
Flawless (FL) and Internally Flawless (IF) grades are often used for investment purposes.
VVS1 to VS1 Clarity grades are for those seeking "nothing but the best" in their jewellery.
VS2 through SI2 Clarity grades are premium quality and offer the best "value" without compromise.
I1 Clarity grades are "excellent value" when budget is a major consideration.
I2 and lower Clarity grades are generally for those not concerned with quality.
